10 week drawing challenge
for self taught tattoo artists
Instead of just telling you what to practice, I'm doing it with you. Save photos and zoom to study if necessary.
Aim: Complete the 1 page per week, if you can repeat each page multiple times in the, even better. The more repetition, the stronger your skills will develop (it's science)
Week 1: Learning shadows and shapes
Note the types of shadows on my sphere, we'll be needing those for our exercises. You can already see how the same type of shadows form on the cup I drew. Learn more in Chapter 2 of my Online Tattoo Course.

Week 2: Contour and Form

Study how I'm breaking down objects' form (the basic shapes that make up the object) and drawing the "contour" lines around the shapes.

For example, some shapes have curved contour lines to show how the shape is rounded, whereas the cube is only made of straight edges and contour lines. This effects contrast and shadows.
Don't overlook how the shadows on the sphere in exercise 1, show up on shapes in this exercise.

Week 3: Shadows, shape and light source

Study and consider how light hits an object. Where does the light start and stop, and why? How should we layer shadows? What about values and contrast?
